All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is one of those films that I think I would have enjoyed a lot more if there wasn’t so much hype around it. This has happened to me on numerous occasions where I have heard such great things about a film and could not wait to see it, only to ultimately be disappointed.  This film was originally made in 2006 but didn’t make its release in US theaters until 2013 for a number of reasons. For years, it was one of those films that people talked about and had never seen. Also the fact that it starred Amber Heard, a sexy Hollywood star who was new to the horror genre at the time, seemed like a bonus.

T. Phoria over at Terrorphoria gives a spot on review of the film and has an opinion on this film that we agree with whole-heartedly. Check out our friend’s solid review on All the Boys Love Mandy Lane.

If you go into this film without high expectations, it can be enjoyable for what it is- a slasher film heavily influenced by its predecessors. Unfortunately for me, the temptation and anticipation was much greater than the outcome. It is still worth a watch and definitely worth the couple minutes to check out Terrorphoria’s review. Happy reading!

  1. Thanks for the shout out!

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree that the movie being hyped up for so long created a mystique that ultimately made it a bit more of a let-down. The same thing happened many years ago when “Something About Mary” was so overly hyped that when I finally saw it on video, all the jokes had been spoiled for me and I couldn’t enjoy it as much as if I’d gone in spoiler-free.

  2. Pff. Hype. I don’t understand this hype business. Maybe I’m lucky in that most of my friends don’t like horror, and I don’t spend too much time reading about movies I haven’t seen. Mostly I have a healthy level of distrust for opinions on the internet. I got a kick out of the movie. Sucks that that squandered all that time with releasing the movie. A little promotion sells a movie. Over half a decade of promotion annoys everyone. ;b
